Deputy Lead for the Live+Smart Research Lab
It’s with great excitement we welcome Lana Van Galen as our new Deputy Lead for the Live+Smart Research Lab. Lana is a Teaching Scholar at the School of Architecture and Built Environment, and has been a practicing architect for more than 20 years. As an architect and lecturer, with an interest in ethics in professional practice, Indigenous Knowledge, and the use of biophilic patterns in the built environment, her life-long appreciation of nature has informed a design and teaching approach which seeks to harmoniously integrate built and natural environments.
“The lab’s focus on biophilia, biologic, biosystem and bioculture aligns perfectly with many of my professional practices and philosophy – to harmoniously integrate the built and natural environment. The diverse skills and knowledge in the lab, plus the energy from working towards meaningful and healthy environmental outcomes, brings a synergy to research, practice and teaching outcomes. Working in this way is my ideal. To be involved in the education and the realisation of biophilic-informed design is significant personally, as well as for Deakin and for our greater society. This is the future of built environment design and I am honoured to be a part of it” – Lana Van Galen
